During his adolescence, Louis Gasté discovered jazz recently imported into France by American troops at the end of the first world war. He also learned the banjo and in 1929 he became one of the first professional musicians with the Ray Ventura's Orchestra - His Collegians as Banjoist/Guitarist. Ray Ventura played a significant role in popularizing jazz in France in the 1930s but fled the Nazi's Jewish persecution in 1941 to Brazil.
